Bariatric Surgery in India / Tummy Tuck in India

Bariatric Surgery or tummy tuck in India, is one of the most sought after as well as the most frequently  performed procedure. As more and more population in the west has been struggling to control weight, and tummy tuck being a common problem, people are looking forward to getting done a liposuction or tummy tuck in India. One of the most compiling reasons for getting a tummy tuck done is excessive fat accumulation around the navel area or loosening of the skin around this area. One can combine a tummy tuck procedure with liposuction, as the two are different but used together at times. Women who might have accumulated fat around the navel after pregnancy, men who have accumulated excessive belly fat due to eating junk food or want a taut abdomen can opt for a tummy tuck in India. There are generally two kinds of abdominoplasty procedures performed, i.e. Full Abdominoplasty and Mini Abdominoplasty depending on the extent of the fat deposition and the dissection required. A lot of hospitals have proven expertise of performing successful bariatric surgery in India.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

A Gastric bypass surgery is the name given to the set of medical procedures aimed at dividing the stomach into a small upper pouch and a larger lower pouch and then making arrangement to connect the small intestine to both the pouches. The fundamental idea behind a gastric bypass surgery is to limit the intake of food and thus the absorption of calories by a person and thus assisting in weight loss. Most of the accredited hospitals provide a range of techniques for a bariatric surgery in India. A gastric bypass surgery is more successful as compared to other restrictive operations like the gastric banding, as far as weight loss is concerned because it produces both malabsorption as well as restricts the food intake. A lot of overseas patients come every year because of the low cost of gastric bypass surgery in India.

Roux en-Y Gastric Bypass

Under this form of gastric Bypass, a small stomach pouch is created with the help of a surgical stapler, and connected to the distal small intestine. The upper part of the small intestine is then reattached in a Y shaped configuration, and thus enabling the flow of food from the pouch in the upper stomach via a Roux Limb. The surgery is one of the most frequently perfomed weight loss surgery in the United States.

Biliopancreatic Diversion

images/biliopancreatic diversion bariatric surgery in india.pngBiliopancreatic Diversion is a restrictive/malabsorptive surgical procedure. It is restrictive in the sense that it "restricts" how much food the stomach can hold and is "malabsorptive" in that it affects how food and calories are absorbed into the bloodstream. It makes the stomach smaller than the original size and thus changes the process of digestion. The remaining part of the stomach is connected to the lower portion of the small intestine. It makes the food bypass part of the small intestine so as to lower the absorption of calories. Because of a relatively smaller stomach, the person feels full on eating small quantities of food.

Biliopancreatic Diversion with a duodenal switch - Another variation of the biliopancreatic diversion is the one performed with a duodenal switch, which differs in the manner that a different part of the stomach is removed and the surgeon leaves the pylorus(the valve that controls food drainage from the stomach) intact. The surgery is a risk prone one as the patients have to take vitamins and minerals for long time.

Endoluminal Sleeve

EndoBarrier endoluminal sleeve surgery is done without incisions. The liner is implanted and removed by way of mouth. It has become one of the fastest growing innovative medical technologies for incision free bariatric surgery. The sleeve creates a lining on the upper part of the small intestine along the first part of the jejunum and the duodenum.

Vertical Banded Gastroplasty

In the vertical banded gastroplasty, also called the Mason procedure or stomach stapling, a part of the stomach is permanently stapled to create a smaller pre-stomach pouch, which serves as the new stomach. A hole at the bottom of the pouch allows allows the content to flow into the remainder of the stomach and then to the gatrointestinal tract. The amount of food that the person can eat is restricted by the pouch and the passage of the food is slowed down.

Adjustable Gastric Band

A gastric band also known scientifically as a Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, is an inflatable silicone device placed around the top of the stomach to slow down  the consumption ofthe food, thereby reducing the overall amount of the food intake. The restriction of the stomach also can be created using a silicone band, which can be adjusted by addition or removal of saline through a port placed just under the skin. This operation can be performed laparoscopically. The surgery is specifically designed for people with a BMI index of 40 or more, or for people who are suffering from diseases like sleep apnea, diabetes, hypertension etc that go better with weight reduction.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy, or gastric sleeve, is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The surgery could be performed by making a single large incision in the abdomen, also called the open or invasive technique, or by making many small incisions and using small surgical instruments guided by robotic arms, called the minimal invasive technique. A thin vertical sleeve is left and the rest of the stomach is removed, and the surgical staples keep the new stomach in place. It's also a restrictive method to weight loss, as the person does not feels like eating much and feels full on eating small quantity of food. The surgery is irreversible.

Intragastric Baloon

Intragastric balloon involves placing a deflated balloon into the stomach, and then filling it to decrease the amount of gastric space. The balloon can be left in the stomach for a maximum of 6 months and results in an average weight loss of 5–9 BMI over half a year. The intragastric baloon techniques is an FDA approved bariatric surgery in India, and often perfomed to assist the obese patients reach a particular weight that is suitable for another type of bariatric surgery.

Gastric Plication

Basically, the procedure can best be understood as a version of the more popular gastric sleeve or gastrectomy surgery where a sleeve is created by suturing rather than removing stomach tissue thus preserving its natural nutrient absorption capabilities. Gastric Plication significantly reduces the volume of the patient's stomach, so smaller amounts of food provide a feeling of satiet.
